Romance Reimagined

Award-winning paintings and sculptures collected through the Autry’s Masters of the American West annual art exhibition and sale composed this exhibition that explored the role of romanticism in contemporary art.

A style of art originating in the late 18th century that quickly spread across Europe and the United States, Romanticism emphasizes emotion, imagination, and immersion in nature as the source of beauty and truth. In Western art today, Romanticism is associated with depictions of the natural world, noble creatures, and conjured histories. Visitors could experience the West as it has been imagined to be, but also as it is: a place indelibly shaped by the enduring appeal of its historical image.

In a joint exhibition in the same gallery, the annual art sale displayed miniature paintings, mixed media, and sculptures by nationally recognized artists.
